This is my entry for Design an Age over at

Myst have always intruiged me, and i always dreamt of coming up with new ages for the game. This is an idea based loosely on the Riven Age

Kirderehn

The dry desert of Kirderehn is hiding a secret. Inside it's mountain walls lies Valley of Kira, a lush, beautiful valley full of trees and plants, water and an abundance of life. The age was one of Atrus attempts to balance the opposites of nature, the dry and the monsoons, the heat and the cold, life and death... But despite Atrus best intentions, the long summers in Kirderehn slowly took over the age, filling every day and every night with heat, heat and more heat until all that remained was a desert where only the sturdy Jeevi trees could survive. But Atrus didn't want to see this once so beautiful place fall into death so in a desperate attempt to reintroduce rain he built the golden domes, whose only purpose is to gather as much solar energy as possible, and then during the few hours of nightfall the giant fans inside start spinning, cooling down the air around them enough for some low clouds to form, and for some much needed rain to fall over the mountain tops. The rain slowly seeps down into the valley of Kira, filling the lake and the shaded lands within with life.

So Kirderehn might be a mighty desert, but still have one of the most dense populations of fish and other life forms in its one single valley, an oasis in a dying land.
